Lorraine Fenlon Artist CV & BIO

Born in Dublin and following living in the Isle of Man, Lorraine returned to settle in Carlow, where she now paints and teaches from her home studio. She has many years as a painter having produced her first paintings age 10.

She has been commissioned for many fine art paintings and murals, art on sculpture, book covers, poetry text & image design and contracted to oversee exhibition set ups, junior school projects and teaching art & creative projects for the Carlow Wheelchair Association.

She exhibits at the RDS, The Red Stables, in Dublin, pop up galleries, art fairs, annual art shows and her home studio.

She paints a range of subjects in oils, mixed media and genuine gold leaf. Her work being easily recognisable by its vibrant colours and textures.

In 2016, she introduced new pieces using genuine gold leaf. This innovative use of this medium, she based on the old negative film roll, using this inspiration to strip back unnecessary elements to showcase iconic landmarks & buildings. She may be the only artist to use the gold leaf in this way and has incorporated it into her oils and mixed media work. She was invited to join The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCI) in recognition of her gold leaf work.

In other mediums, she paints with oils acrylic, inks, watercolour and mixed media, worked in buttery layers or glazing, and often using methods to create under-painted textural effects.  Her work continually evolves combining contemporary art guided by traditional approaches.  She is influenced by the impressionists like Monet & Vincent Van Gogh and Turner’s mastery of illustration and atmosphere and takes inspiration from her natural surroundings finding it in form, colour, reflections, light & shadow, daily interactions and even TV.
